Have you ever heard of Keurig? In 1998, Keurig put some of their newly designed coffee makers in business offices in places such as New York City and New England. It wasn’t until 2004 when the company decided to try to sell their machines to homes and places outside of an office building. Variations of this company’s creations can now be found in hotel rooms, offices, homes, schools, and other places of business.
Keurig coffee makers provide a way for you to enjoy a cup of your favorite flavor without having to brew an entire pot of coffee. This is great for those on-the-go or in homes where there is only one coffee drinker. Don’t waste the rest of a pot of coffee due to lack of interest. Just find a flavor (or several) you like and buy some pods. Your cup of coffee takes seconds to brew and you’ll be well on your way to your caffeine fix!
Coffee And Bonding
I remember being young and all the surrounding adults seemed to drink coffee. Wherever we would go, whatever time of day, there was always a hot pot of coffee waiting to be enjoyed. I remember loving the aroma, but after trying it once, I decided it wasn’t for me. I was only 8, but I did not enjoy black coffee. Fast forward to college. I learned there was something out there to make coffee taste better: cream and sugar. Hello? Where were those additions when I was 8? (It’s probably a good thing I didn’t enjoy coffee at 8 years old; I’d often heard coffee stunted one’s growth!) Anyway, I remember sitting in restaurants with my mom, aunt, and grandma during my college years. We would visit and drink coffee. This is when I learned that I enjoyed it. I really knew I had a small addiction to coffee when I discovered flavored creamers!
Ever Met A Teacher Who Doesn’t Enjoy Coffee?
Me either, really. Isn’t it part of the teacher stereotype? Most teachers enjoy coffee. Maybe it’s the caffeine. Perhaps it’s the sugar? Maybe it’s a placebo effect and people think that the coffee wakes them up. Whatever the reason, I knew that when I landed my first teaching job, I needed a small coffee pot in my classroom. I was thrilled to find a 4-cup coffee maker and immediately added it to my classroom. I’d make a small pot at school each morning and have coffee until lunchtime! The hallways smelled of fresh coffee. It was great! I never again had a day of teaching without coffee.
Enter – The Keurig
When the Keurig first became evident among my closest friends and family, it seemed as though many of them purchased one for their home. I, however, was skeptical. I couldn’t justify spending the money on the machine AND the coffee pods. While I did enjoy the options and various flavors, I couldn’t bring myself to purchase one. Being the frugal one I am, I would talk myself out of it every time it would present itself. That is until one day, I overheard an infomercial on the television. It was a Keurig advertisement promising a great deal, warranty, and several flavors of coffee pods. I did a quick bit of research and days later, it arrived at our door!
This is the model of the Keurig I purchased years ago. It’s still on our counter being used several times a day. The mister and I enjoy a hot cup of coffee relatively often. We have found that we enjoy the flavored coffee pods and are regularly trying out new kinds, and my addiction to flavored creamer is still prevalent today. I do have a 12-cup coffee maker that’s collecting dust. I break it out when we have a house full of company and who enjoys coffee. The Keurig has done its job and well. It’s low-maintenance and it even shuts itself off after so many minutes of inactivity.

One Of My Coffee-Loving Friends
just purchased a Keurig. How she never had a Keurig until last week, I’ll never know. She loves coffee; her husband does not. She’s also a teacher and would brew an entire pot of coffee in the morning and take with her what she could fit in her travel mug. That left most of her brewed coffee as waste. She sometimes said she would drink it as a cold brew when she got home from school. Often times, though, it would get dumped out.
Road Trip – Keurig Mission
This friend and I took a road trip to one of our nearest bigger cities. When you live in a small mountain town, it takes a while to get into actual civilization. We drove 2.5 hours in search of a Keurig for her. When we arrived at the store, we saw several options. Immediately, I located my machine. We were reading about the product, and noticed that right next to it was another one that looked similar. The only difference was that unlike my Keurig, which has 3 options for the size of the brewed cup, this newer version had 4 options for brew size.
For a little higher price, my friend settled on the Keurig K-Select Coffee Maker, Single-Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer, With Strength Control and Hot Water On Demand, Matte Black. The one main difference is that she can brew a larger cup of coffee than I can with mine. My Keurig will brew 6, 8, or 10 oz. My friend has options of 6, 8, 10, or 12 oz.

What The Reviews Say
While I’m completely happy with my Keurig, I’ve found some reviews that don’t show the same customer satisfaction. My Keurig, the Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker, Single-Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer, 6 to 10 oz. Brew Sizes, Black, only averages 3.9 out of 5 stars from more than 8,500 Amazon customers. This coffee maker is the #1 best-seller among single-serve brewers, but here are some comments I found on the Keurig I own:

While most people purchase a coffee maker to make coffee, I’ve learned that coffee pods have come a long way. In fact, with these single-brew machines, one can purchase different kinds of drinks to make via the pods. I’ve found and purchased cappuccino pods, cider pods, hot cocoa pods, and flavored coffee. The options are endless, which is one of the reasons I love the versatility of the Keurig. Also, if you don’t like black appliances, you’re able to select from various colors that Keurig offers. Certainly, you can find something that suits your tastes. Keurig offers several coffee machines. If the two above don’t strike your fancy, maybe a different product will. Best of luck in your coffee-maker journey!
If you’ve got a Keurig at home, leave a comment and share what you like or dislike about it. If you’re on the fence about purchasing one, I’d recommend taking the leap. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, especially if you’re just wanting to make one cup instead of wasting the remnants of a whole pot of Joe.
