Who has room for more appliances in the kitchen? I don’t need another appliance taking up space! Go back and read my post about how long it took me to use my new KitchenAid mixer. I’m picky about what gets left out on our counters, as kitchens are generally never big enough for one person it seems.
Creators of new kitchen gadgets keep coming up with brilliant products, and frankly, I’m a sucker for new ways to prepare food. I have always loved being in the kitchen making new things. Much like my love/hate relationship with my KitchenAid mixer while it was still unopened in the box, the same scenario happened when I acquired an air fryer. If you read my above post on the KitchenAid, you’re probably rolling your eyes in disbelief that I didn’t learn my lesson from that experience.
I Do Enjoy New Things
Really, I do. I like getting new appliances, gadgets, or products. Generally speaking, if I purchase something, I’m all about using it right away. The excitement of saving for something and then being able to purchase it is a great feeling. However, something is different when given the product as a gift. Something inside of me tells me that I need to just keep it all packaged up and kept in pristine condition. If I ever need to use it, I’ll just take it out of the box and return it to its shelf or closet when I’m done with it.
A quick example; I just purchased a Canon camera. Read about it here. I spent 8 years deciding on which camera to buy. I now have one and when it arrived, I couldn’t open the box fast enough! I was far too excited to use it finally! If you read about my experience with my KitchenAid, you know that I received it as a gift and it took me forever to get it out and use it. Now that it’s unboxed, I use it all the time!
I didn’t learn my lesson. I’m a quick learner. It’s a quality that I’m proud of. However, admitting that I still didn’t learn my lesson from the KitchenAid hurts my pride a little! You see, I received another gift for Christmas last year. My wonderful parents gifted me with an air fryer. Amazing, right? (My mom just knows what I need. She’s got a knack for it.) It’s amazing, yes. However, do you think I used it right away? Unfortunately, you know the answer.
It sat. It sat in its original packaging. It sat in its original packaging in its original box. It sat in its original packaging in its original box in my garage. For. Six. Months. I have zero excuses, so I’m not going there. Coincidentally, my sister received the same air fryer and she told stories of all the things she made in it. Her family loved the product and they used it all the time. I would even overhear my mom say she needed one for her house! Still, my little air fryer sat all bundled up, lonely and alone, for months. I only felt slightly guilty; I knew the time would come and I would use it.
What made me un-package this new gadget? I saw it in action! I witnessed the amazingness of this appliance and I knew I couldn’t wait another day. I was able to see it in use and taste the goodness that came from it! One crispy onion ring was all it took! I was sold. The second I got home, I unwrapped my air fryer and have used it just about every day since. No lie! It’s my new best friend! Let me tell you why.
First of all, let me tell you that I have a toaster oven. I dragged my feet on the air fryer partly because everything I would have made in the air fryer could be made in the toaster oven. I liked the convenience of the toaster oven, although it took up a permanent space on my kitchen counter. Once I saw the benefits of the air fryer, I ditched the toaster oven, freeing up space in the kitchen for my new appliance.
Top three reasons you should grab one for yourself…
1. Quickly Cook Frozens. Throw some frozen french fries in the basket and let the air fryer work its magic. In less than 13 minutes, they’ll come out perfectly crisp! We use the air fryer for most frozen snacks and entrees. Some of my favorite frozen items to cook in the air fryer are tator tots, breaded okra or green beans, pizza pockets, and my kiddos’ favorite, corn dogs. The air fryer makes our favorite treats within minutes, allowing us to save time when we would have had to preheat the oven.
2. Meats, I Say? Yes!! My second favorite way to use the air fryer is for foods that are not already frozen. For example, I’ve made hamburgers, steak, chicken, and bacon in our air fryer! It’s so quick to prepare and within minutes, the meat is cooked to your desired preference. I enjoy vegetables from the air fryer as well! Recently, I threw in some cut potatoes, baby carrots, and onions. After I seasoned them, I cooked them in the air fryer. When finished, we had a great side dish that everyone loved! Try peppers or zucchini! You’ll love the outcome.
3. Convenience. I say it’s convenient for several reasons. First of all, clean up is a breeze! Our air fryer basket can even be placed in the dishwasher. You should know though, I’ve never had to put it in the dishwasher, as it’s so easy to clean by hand! Sometimes, to make clean up even quicker, I’ll place a layer of tin foil in the bottom basket to catch some grease. If you are out of tin foil, no worries! Any droppings will wipe right out. I can’t tell you how often we’ve taken our air fryer to a friend’s house to use! It’s lightweight, and because of its quick and easy way to prepare food, we like to share it! (I need to also mention that you can use your air fryer without oil, which makes your snacks that much healthier!)
I’ll get you a link to one that I recommend. However, I need you to know that there are several options out there. Each brand has its own theory about what makes it the right choice for you and may overwhelm you. (That’s why I’ve chosen to promote this one.) The sizes and colors vary. Basically, it’s all about your preference. If you go with a different one from the one I recommend, please check the reviews, check for convenience, and all its fancy options. I wish you the best of luck in your search. Check out the air fryer of my choice below. (It’s an affiliate link, so if you purchase this exact one, I’ll receive a commission on it, at no additional cost to you.)
—> Check it out!
I would like to tell you that I will have thoroughly learned my lesson from here on out. However, my past practices have not shown that pattern of behavior. I will try to do a better job of unwrapping any gifts in the future. If you take away anything from this post, please take this advice: If given a gift, use it. The person who gifted it knew it would be just right for you. Trust them. Trust the product. Go grab yourself an air fryer and see all the benefits there are. If you have one already, please leave a comment below detailing why you love it and what your favorite dishes are! We love trying new things, so we’ll take your advice!
