Several years ago, when my daughter was 2, we spent a lot of time in the kitchen. I have several photos of her helping me with dinner, peeling onions, decorating cupcakes, etc. We fell into a routine of doing these sorts of things together. Often, we’d bake some yummy sweets and a friend asked me once if I had a KitchenAid mixer. Of course, my response was, “I don’t need one of those. My cheap hand mixer works just fine!”
Until It Didn’t
You guessed it. As all cheap appliances usually do, my trusty hand mixer breathed its last breath. What happened then? Did I buy a KitchenAid? NOPE. Sorry. I didn’t spend the money. I did what all people do – stopped using recipes that required mixing! This option, of course, led to less baking and no desserts. (But isn’t that what we so often do? Give up? Quit? Even if we’re good at it?) It can’t be just my inherited stubbornness (thank you, Dad). I’m wrong? Yes, I am. You’re right! It probably is just me and my innate stubborn reasoning. I have to apologize to my family for months of zero sugary sweetness to add to our after-dinner routine. I’m certain, though, our waistlines thanked me.
They Forgave Me – And Then Some
My family knew that the girl and I loved to work together in the kitchen. Thanks to the brilliance of my parents, I was gifted a KitchenAid for Christmas one year. Perhaps they were sick of my boxed brownies! But a KitchenAid! Really?! This was awesome! I was the luckiest gal in the world! How would I ever repay them for this perfect gift?
I let it collect dust for months. I had the counter space for it. I couldn’t justify keeping it out on the counter if I wasn’t fully committed to using it on a regular basis. I’m a clean freak by nature, and the thought of it sitting out for me to see every day didn’t appeal to me. It was easier to keep it in its box, safe and secure its original packaging until I could commit.
Dust Began To Settle
I wish I was lying about what I’m going to say next. That poor KitchenAid continued to be stored through 3 (THREE) house moves! I even moved cross-country with this appliance. I guess the good news is that because I never unpackaged it, it made the trips safely!
Faced With A Choice
When we moved to where we are now, the Mister and I realized that even though we downsized by more than half to move here, we still needed to consider getting rid of more things. Less is more; I fully believe this. However, when unpacking, I rediscovered the KitchenAid and had to make a choice. I could get rid of it, or finally commit to allowing it to be a part of my cooking/baking regime. Do I really need a KitchenAid? I ultimately decided that it needed to stay. I wanted a fair shot at it. After all, it was a gift and I had to at least give it a whirl.
What In The Whole World?
(That’s a saying from the boy, who used to say it all the time, not really understanding what he was saying, at two-years-old.) Anyway, I never dreamed about what this thing could do! I have to tell you – I need to apologize to my folks for not giving this thing its due diligence long ago! (If you’re reading, Mom, I’m sorry!) Boy, was I ever missing out!
The Uses – Let Me Count The Ways
I have a new permanent fixture on my kitchen countertop, and it will likely never go away. The kids (mostly the girl) and I have been using this mixer several times a week. In fact, we just used it this morning, while making an easy apple bar recipe! If you’ve been following us, you know my girl, P, wanted to create a YouTube channel, so we did. It’s just brand new, but we posted the video of the apple bar making experience online today! You’ll see her using the KitchenAid. She loved learning how to use it!
Pop over and see today’s installment on our YouTube Channel, Making Mountain Memories! (If you wouldn’t mind liking, sharing, or subscribing, the girl would be thrilled. She’s checking the analytics daily!)
Here it is! One of my most favorite kitchen appliances!
I have been reading some reviews of my KitchenAid on Amazon lately. As of today, there are 1,172 customer reviews, ranking this KitchenAid 4.6/5 Stars!

My Final Thoughts
In my personal opinion, there is no product out there that is perfect, deserving a 100% positive ranking. However, my experience with my KitchenAid has been wonderful. I can’t find any fault, which is why I’m giving it 5 stars. (My regret is that it took me so long to find the value in it!) We’ve used it to mix several things, and not only limited for baking. I’m so very glad that I own one and if you’d like to check it out for yourself or get it as a gift for a special friend or family member, please do! To make your life easier, I’ve posted a link to take you directly to this KitchenAid mixer.
Do I need a KitchenAid? Do you want one? Would your friends or family members like one? I’d really consider checking it out, as there are so many benefits of having one. It’s a time saver for me, and in this busy world, I’m all about doing things efficiently.
